The QOOL Ice Cube Challenge Part 02
There is a huge selection of different cool boxes available in stores and online. In addition to the price differences, there are also big differences between the different boxes in terms of how long they last.
We took up the challenge and tested our QOOL boxes together with two major competitors.
The following models were tested: QOOL Box L Coleman 70 QT Xtreme DOMETIC Cool-Ice CI 42
The boxes were set up in a row outside and completely filled with ice cubes. A temperature logger was placed on the lid of one box to record the outside temperature throughout the entire test. The boxes were opened briefly once every day to record the current ice cube status. The test continued until the last ice cube had melted.
Manufacturers use different insulation materials. Coleman and Dometic use polyurethane foam and the QOOL boxes have vacuum insulation panels installed.
