With the Porsche 968 and roof tent through Cornwall – An adventure on four wheels
When it comes to classic car travel, the Porsche 968 is certainly not the first choice for a road trip with a roof tent. But that's exactly what makes it so appealing: a 31-year-old Porsche 968, loaded with a roof tent, traveling through picturesque Cornwall - and us right in the middle of it! In the current Auto Classic magazine, we described this unique experience in detail.
A classic on tour: The Porsche 968
The Porsche 968, built in 1993, is a true masterpiece of engineering. With its 3.0-litre four-cylinder engine and 240 bhp, it not only offers powerful performance, but also a driving experience that is often lacking in modern cars. Thanks to its perfect roadholding, the classic car also mastered Cornwall's winding and narrow roads with ease. The idea of fitting a roof tent on the Porsche 968 was daring, but it paid off in full. With the tent directly on the roof, we were flexible and could stop at the most beautiful stretches of coast in Cornwall and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. From the surfing hotspot Newquay to the rugged cliffs of Land's End - the feeling of adventure was always present.
Indispensable: The QOOL Box Eco+ for cool refreshments
Well-chilled drinks and fresh food are a must on a tour like this. This is where our QOOL Box Eco+ came into play. It kept our supplies consistently cool even in summer temperatures - without any electricity connection! Especially on hot days, it was a real luxury to have a cool lemonade or a refreshing drink on hand after a long drive or hike. Thanks to the innovative technology of the QOOL Box, our food stayed fresh for several days. It is ideal for vintage car trips, where you often travel away from the comfort of a campsite. The QOOL Box not only provided us with fresh snacks, but also ice for our drinks - an indispensable companion for our Cornwall trip!
The Highlights of Cornwall
Cornwall offers a unique combination of rugged coastal landscape, charming fishing villages and historical sights. The coastal road from St. Ives to Penzance in particular offers breathtaking views and is perfect for vintage car drives. The narrow streets and sharp bends presented challenges for our Porsche 968, but it mastered them with flying colors. Each destination offered new experiences - be it a stroll through the picturesque alleys of St. Ives or the impressive view of the sea from the cliffs of Tintagel. A particular highlight was spending the night right on a secluded stretch of beach. With the Porsche 968 and the roof tent, we were able to enjoy the freedom to stop anywhere and set up camp for the night. While the waves gently rolled onto the shore, we sat relaxed in front of our tent, enjoyed a cool drink from the QOOL box and reflected on the day.
Conclusion: An unforgettable adventure
The road trip with the Porsche 968 through Cornwall was an unforgettable experience. The combination of classic driving experience, breathtaking scenery and the freedom to stop at any time made the trip a real adventure. Our QOOL Box Eco+ was the perfect companion and ensured that we always had cool drinks and fresh food.
